Hi, I just ordered a new rebuild kit of ebay, And I have a question? IT comes with two rings, and on the package it says First, and the other package it says second, does that mean the first one goes on the top and the second one goes in the middle? I came with oil rings but I already know where thos go. I have included some pictures, Thanks.

Toss the Evergreen head gasket in the trash . . .

And, as the story goes . . . my highest degree of recommendation is to get on eBay and buy a Factory Service Manual.

Lot of stuff is explained in the FSM.

Haynes and Chiltons, ehhh . . . :ermm:

Just as you suspect the "first" ring is the top one, the "second" ring is actually the second one down from the top and the oil ring (which is typically 3 pieces) goes in the third slot (when counting from the top).

Definitely get yourself a Factory service Manual (ebay is your friend) and while I am not a huge fan of either Chiltons or Haynes manuals on occasion they have some pictures that help explain things. Consequently I have all 3 but I depend on the FSM for any specificiations. Good Luck!

The eBay head guy is local to us too. He'll sell you a rebuilt head and let you bring the core back later for refund (no wait for 'your head' to get rebuilt)... little downtime if the metro is your only car or primary commuter.

I'd be down to help some of you guys... give me a PM and I'll give my #. Or nwgeo (Greg) has it. Saw him at the PullnSave the other day... used to work with him a few years back (before he was cool enough to sport the Metro)

Toss the head gasket and buy this one.
I bought the same rebuild kit and blew the head gasket in 1000 miles.
The rest of the kit seems to be good just not the head gasket.

The guy ships very fast and is great to deal with.
Good luck with your rebuild :thumb
