need more info...like, in traffic?, coolant level okay?, outside temp.?, A/C on? ...check if the radiator cap is sealing properly...check temp. sensor connections...Very Important: check to make sure the cooling fan is operating like it should...if it has A/C, make sure that fan comes on when you turn on the system. |

No AC , just reg. driving , 5 speed , fan works , just seems to get hot quickly and stays at 3/4 on gauge . What temp should the theromstat be, 180, 160 ?. Thanks. |

Gauge should be dead center and never move for any reason. That being said, you could just have a gauge or sending unit that reads high. As long as the fan cycles on and off when the car is sitting still, and the gauge doesn't really move, it's probably fine. I think thermostats are available in 180 or 195° versions. With a properly working gauge, they will both appear dead center. |

the temp gauge is really not much more than a glorified idiot light. it will not respond to small changes in coolant temp. it is good that you are watching it. to help monitor movement, cut some small triangle 'pointers' from colored tape, and stick them at the tip of the needle. . an aftermarket gauge will give you an actual 'temp'. |

195 is most commonly used. Great winter heat. |

195 is the closest to the factory thermostat. |
