The plug should look like this: IIRC there are some aftermarket alarms that have a socket. If not then you can take a fuse and insert it in the raised empty slot on the Fuse Box and the CEL will flash. Lower right corner in pic.

There was a rudimentary scanner, but only dealers had it and it's not necessary. The diagnostic fuse and Morse Code check engine light will tell you all you need to know. |

I don't have an aftermarket alarm. I took a pic of the plug I have but this forum apparently doesn't allow direct photo uploads....this is 2012 for gosh sake!!! I did the fuse jumper thing and got a code of 51 for EGR. So the question now is what are the most common problems to look for with the EGR system? |

This is 2012 but the storage needed for pictures is enormous and linking to other image locations is free. Use this link for pictures. http://geometroforum.com/topic/1322668/ I have found the free image hosting of photobucket.com to be very helpful. Also linking to "Image Location" allows me to simply search for a photo, flash or gif on the Web and link it - without adding it to my computer. Not an issue with my 200GB of free space and Linux but it's one less step for lazy people. Code 51 for EGR likely means the ports through the exhaust manifold, block and intake manifold are clogged or a possible vacuum hose clog or leak. This is the most widely used link: Metro EGR System. |

Your 95 isn't OBD2 so it just has the square GM socket that all the early Chevys used, but it's wired differently so a standard scanner won't work. I wanted to get live data from mine and without the Tech1 scanner with the Suzuki cartridge it's not going to happen. |

HAha yeah, I forgot this is the Metro forum and we are here cause we are thrifty,LOL!!! So I found my book... The EGR valve is not seized, and I cleaned the little button filter. The CEL was on for my entire drive yesterday 190 mi to where I work. I got in the car this morning to drive into work and the CEL was out! unbelieveable. I will clean out the whole system when I get home Friday.... Thanks guys for all the help! |

neat gonna have to get one of these - just to see what it can do - cheaper even than the car code system by Alex Pepper which will only function in OBD2 systems |
