My crankshaft and camshaft has small wear grooves from where the old seals were riding. If I use repair sleeves, will this cause the new seals to wear out faster since the new seal will be stretched a little bit more due to the increased diameter (albeit small increase)? I've googled this but can't find hardly anything about how a seals longevity is affected when sleeves are used. I just don't want to put it all together and then find out that I should have used sleeves. The grooves aren't deep but they are visible. Or do the rest of you guys normally just put on new seals without sleeves and call it done? |

If there's room, you can install the new seal a little proud or recessed in the bore so it rides on a different surface. Don't forget to lube the seal and crank/cam surfaces. |
