I have a 94 metro 2dr Htchbk and am trying to set the timing in the 1.0. I've heard that the 80C mark is the one i want to use, but everytime i try to move the cam gear to that mark it springs forward and i am left in an angry state. if anyone knows a trick to keeping the cam gear from moving or if something is not right any advice will be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!

I've had this and it may be the cause of the belt being a tooth off in most cases.

With the spark plugs in, I set the crank sprocket at it's mark. Stretch the right/longest stretch of the timing belt tight up to the cam gear. You may be able to rotate the cam gear by hand and if not use a socket wrench to rotate it so the marks align and install the belt. Then wrap the belt around the tensioner. Forget the spring adjuster and add a little more tension (2-3-4 pounds) as you tighten the tensioner bolt. At least that's what I did. :-/

Make sure the pin that locates the cam sprocket on the cam is pointing straight down at the crank. If the sprocket is installed on the other slot, then you need to use the other timing mark.

What a simple and effective solution. Good thought.
