...its a completly rebuilt one but the cam lobes have some slight surface rust...would this ruin the caom or would a light scuffing with some emory cloth fix? there isnt any pitting yet just surface rust

I'd contact the seller, unless you caused the rust?

I would try some scotch brite with automatic trans fluid, I think emery cloth would be to course.

I personally would not run that cam. :shake Rust seems pretty deep, but hard to be 100% sure from just pictures. :hmm

Question is, was it left out in the rain with the valve cover off? :hmm

I'd pull the cam & lifters :gamerz and see what else is down there. :news

Let us know who you bought it from so nobody here deals with them.

it looks like its just a fingerprint rust spot...ill scotchbrite it and then post the pics to see if it is in fact deeper than it appears

do not use scotchbrite while the cam is installed in the cyl head

remove the cam and use a wire wheel , if when you are done polishing you can feel any scratches with your fingernail
do not use that cam

get a economy cam from 3tech and send that tent stake in as a core
assuming it is reusable as a core
or reuse your old cam

A wire wheel? I don't think that's a good idea.
