has anyone else done this ? it was pretty easy i seen it on another site and wired it up one day , only thing i noticed was the idle seems a little smoother but it may be in my head :P

we do not know which system you are modifying so... kinda hard to say
any way

the system will get to closed loop faster as the 02 sensor will be hot enough to start working in
seconds
less than 60

from start , even from cold , so
your system will be cleaner (which will prolong cat converter life )
and
will be in fuel control sooner , so FE will be improved , slightly .
the improvements will be larger in colder ambient temperatures

well there really is only 2 systems. either you already have 4 wire (clearly not applicable) or he has single wire.

SO how do you convert single wire to 4 wire and what sensor is best?

i used a sensor from a scrap van i think it was a 99 chevy , you basicly run a key on hot and two ground and use the current signal wire ill take pictures of what i done if anyones interested its very easy to do and cheap if u use a pull a part junkyard sensor

My 02 sensor is over 10 years old now, should i replace it to improve FE? It looked terrible when i pulled it off... thou its still good enough to pass CA smog.

No. if it still functions it won't help FE. in theory (their are exceptions) either it works or it don't

you will know right away if the O2 fails (even if not enough to cause a CEL) as FE will drop dramatically.

the 02 sensor can fail partially
it can slow down
and there can be problems with amplitude
and
the values can shift high or low so that
what the 02 sensor thinks is stoich is really something else

FE may improve or it may be degraded depending on how the 02 sensor fails.

in any event
a failing 02 sensor will always shorten cat converter life
no exceptions

a failing 02 sensor that is killing the cat may not set a DTC and may not "fail" a
Mode 6 or a Mode 5 test

the only way to really test 02 sensor function is with a scope

an 02 sensor must change state in 100ms and amplitude must be 150 to 850 mv and 850 to 150mv
in 100ms or less at 2k rpm hot -
