I set mine to 0.039". When they get to 0.042", I sent them to Car Nut replace them. That's around 15,000 miles in Geo Metro world.

The platinum plugs will last longer. However, the center ceramic is likely to crack before the electrodes ever wear out.

For what it's worth, standard spark plugs are inexpensive and their performance is predictable.

:hmm No I don't think so. One threaded into each cylinder. You can easily fit 15 or so in the valve cover. I have two in my dist cap. The rest I welded to the block. When I hit 88 miles per hour the sky lights up as if zues himself was coming down.

No I meant the gap. I think the recommended check is 15k miles, not certain on that. I'm kind of ocd on my engine, I check everything every month or so.

Damn, dayle1960!

You're as bad as my mom! (RIP)

As we all know, Geo Metro owners go through a certain ritual of denial prior to overhauling their engine or sending the car to the salvage yard.

You know. The litany of the forum . . .

Spark Plugs . . . . aummmmmm . . . .
PCV Valve . . . . aummmmmm . . . .
Distributor Cap . . . . aummmmmm . . . .
Rotor . . . . aummmmmm . . . .

So, old Geo Glenn, on his adventures to Pick-n-Pull, picks up spark plugs. I check the gap. Yup. Sure enough. Right at 0.039". I toss them in the ultrasonic cleaner for an hour, install a new folded steel gasket, and put them in a plastic bag for later.

I've got about 7 sets for the 3 cylinder, and 2 sets for the 4 cylinder.

This is really overthinking. They usually come out of the package at .40, anything in that ballpark is fine. They last 30K miles for regular plugs, 60K miles for Platinum or Iridium. Taking them out before that mileage is just wearing out the threads.

:gp While I always check the gap, I can't remember the last time I actually had to re-gap a plug that hadn't been previously touched by someone else.
