I just finished my rebuild and started it like 15 minutes ago, I have two thing wrong the oil light in the dash is staying on, But I just filled it with fresh oil, is the sensor under the manifold the one that controls if the oil is low? and the lifters tick really bad? Someone told me after you do a rebuild the lifter will take a little bit to break in. I did not clean the lifters, I thought about it but they seemed fine what do you guys think. Thanks. |

The oil pressure dummy light is under the oil filter. Light kicks on when there is less than 5psi oil pressure or something, so you don't want to be running it like that. It's possible your idle is too low, causing low oil pressure and lifter tap? If you didn't rebuild or clean your lifters, they shouldn't be making any noises. |

Did you use stainless steel valves for the rebuild? If so, you may experience ticking as part of the breaking in process. I rebuilt my daughter's 93 vert 2 years ago and still get a little tick. Second, your compression should read 150 or thereabouts across the board but will slowly rise as the valves seat properly. So don't freak if you test compression and say "WTF!!" |

I took the cap of the valve cover and did not noticed any oil coming up, But I put in a brand new oil pump? Is there someting I could have done wrong? Because shouldnt it be pushing oil up through there? |

take the filter off, pull the plug wires so the car cant fire...and crank the engine for a couple of bursts untill oil pumps out of the filter hole...sometimes a filter in place makes it hard for the oil to get started. once oil pumps out...replace the filter and clean up the mess. oil should gush out pretty quick with the filter off... The oil is pumping out? Is that and indication that the oil pump is working? Maybe I have a bed sensor? |

Tons of things can be happening. Yes that's the oil pressure sensor. I'd figure out what was going on before I started the car again. For sure pull the plugs and turn it over with no load and see if you can build pressure that way. |

sounds like the pump is working...put the filter back on, and just crank the engine...look through the oil cap ...do you see oil gettin to top of the engine?? and like coche said...dont START the car untill you figure out if oil is getting through.... Edited by 1.0smallblock, May 1 2012, 10:26 PM.

With the plugs out you should be able to fill the filter and extinguish the oil light by cranking the starter for 30 seconds or less. If you put the oil pump in dry it may never prime by cranking or running the engine ... without help. |
