I found a 2-dr FS for $500 with a broken front motor mount. I looked at it a month ago and cannot remember which block bolt bosses were which, but, the 3 bosses were in the following condition
The motor mount itself was broken in half in the block bolt area - each broken part had at least one block bolt hole in it. Has anyone ever seen this failure or know what caused it? I was wondering if someone jacked the car up and put a jackstand under the motor mount. ___________________________ I was thinking the stripped boss could be tapped to the next size. The broken boss, I don't know how much wall thickness there is in the block in this region, but it may be possible to literally drill through the block and fully tap the hole and face off the fracture surface. Using bolts to shim up to the bracket, install a bolt with sealant on the threads. My guess is there would be enough engagement to work. The motor mount might even work with only 2-bolts - but the right two, but I cannot say from memory which 2 it would be. ___________________________ Anyhow, its a 5/3 and the frame horns from what I could see from under the hood might be OK. The RHS which is easy to see had a coating of dirt on it and had small rust stained patches over most of its surface. Not rust, but stains. Looked to me like it was surface rust starting to occur. The the car is $500. |

I had the front motor mount snap on my 3/5 when I clutch dropped it in a parking lot :/ It snapped it and broke one of the bolts, but the threads were in tact. I was able to use a pair of vice grips to remove the snapped stud and bolt a new one to it. I dont know how that helps you, but Ive had the same thing happen. |

I'm an Old Timer (59), when you say "clutch dropped it" would that be "dumped the clutch?" If yes, wow, that's a serious weakness. Did you recover all 3 bolts? I was thinking that it might be possible one bolt could work itself loose from the vibration which would weaken that attachment enough for the mount bracket to break. Once it breaks, its a perfect "pry bar" to bust more stuff. I wonder if other people have done this also? Thanks for the info! Tom |

I have a engine with the same damage and it was caused by an accident. I consider this block as junk, I bought it because it runs perfectly. I will use the internals and the head with another block. |
