91 auto. The car started to loose water randomly. It would be fine for a couple of days and then all of a sudden loose water. My daughter would tell me that it was running rough at idle when stopping at lights. Her radiator had the usual bad seal and cracking on top. And the top hose had seen better days. So I changed out the radiator and hoses. She took the car out and she called me from 5 min up the road and said it was running rough again and stalled at the light. So I went up there and cranked it up. Was running one cylinder down. But after about 30 sec she was running fine. I told her to drive it home and I would look at it. Compression was fine but Pcv was clogged. So cleaned it and off she went. No problems for 2 more days and then it just quit. When I tried to turn it over it just felt like the bottom end was locked up. So I drained the oil and a quart of pure antifreze came out then the rest of the oil. Pulled the plugs and cranked it and antifreeze came out of cylinder1 and 2. Within an hour cylinder one was almost full again. When I pulled her apart the head gasket looked good. But there was fluid up insider the intake manifold. I've had blown head gaskets before but never did they leak that bad nor have I had antifreeze in the intake. So what is the verdict? Is it possible that the intake gasket failed? |

I used a spare I had in the garage. If I had to guess I would say it was an evergreen. |

If she ran it hot you should also check the head for cracks. |

Thankfully it never ran hot. Need it up and running Monday so I had to go with a felpro gasket set and bolts. Just got the head back on. Had to drive to BFE to get the only set around. On another note. As far as the cam and crank seals go where is the best place to get them. Seems like the ones I have been getting suck because they only tend to last 6 months to a year before they start to leak. Between the 4 metros I have it seems I am replacing one or the other on one car every couple of months or so. I have gotten some online and auto zone. |
