I am curious if anyone has installed a tilt steering column in a metro (preferably a vert as thats what I have) and if so what did it come out of and what kind of work was it, I am boarder line shade tree mechanic at best. the good news is that I have 2 verts and am willing to play with one and leave it alone after it has done something to make me lose my patience with it. I tried searching the forum but didnt come up with anything.

Measure the lenght of your column and go to the junkyard and start comparing. Being yours is a 91 and you have most of the switches above the cluster it's doable but you'll still have to figure out how to mate the ignition and signal light wires.

My to do list of mods is starting to get backed up since I got sucked into these forums... Now I have to add a tilt column to my Saturday pick and pull shopping. And it is probably going to have cruise too...

LOL.....at the least, you'll need to add a seat heater and electric seats.....and as you make all your mods, please post detailed pictures and 'how-to' instructions

Please just call me; "Schultz"

I needed to lower the wheel for my wife to comfortably use it.
All I did was remove the 2 bolts under the column that hold it to the brace,
add 2 lug nuts between the column and brace,
then replace the original hardware with some longer bolts.
To look at it you can not tell I did anything to it.
But,
it fits her better.

Just look for a tilt colum out of a Swift. They don't actually tilt so much as move up and down a couple of inches. Direct replacement for a Metro colum.

A lot of those were not ever offered in the USA.

I just started looking into tilt steering after seeing SuzukiTom's writeup. So far, it doesn't look like an option for any of the North American Metro/Swifts, but I did find it for other markets. It's looking like a 1:1 replacement, so far, and the ignition switch hole location in the shrouding looks similar. The column end also looks different, but can't tell if that's critical, or just an accommodation for the lever. Now, to find a column cheap enough to make a trial worthwhile!

Here's a couple diagrams to compare:
