Back in 1986, I bought a new Chevy Sprint. It was a 3-cylinder 600cc carbureted hatchback.

A couple years later I traded it in on something beefier... it was afraid of trucks, which wasn't a big deal, but we were having some heavy rain where I lived at the time, and a couple times it tried to float away.

Anyway, my pickup truck gets 12-14mpg in 4WD and 15-18mpg in 2WD which isn't bad, but at $4/gallon it kind of inhibits my mobility.

Recently bought a 94 Geo Metro Hatchback, 1000cc 3cyl throttle body injection. First tank of gas showed 43mpg which is probably closer to 48mpg since it has 175/70 R13's instead of the stock 12-in wheels.

I don't see a section specifically about interiors, door handles, and suchlike. Is there such a place?

I've noticed that I have to unlock the automatically-locking door before I can open the door from the inside, is that standard operation or is something needing fixed?

The autolock is a safety feature. Door handles can be bought new and expensive at a Chevy or Suzuki dealer or cheaply at a junkyard.

Welcome to your new forum, crankypuss! :coffee

My first really small car to drive was a Honda 600. Lots of fun but yeah, afraid of large moving vehicles. :lol

door handles interior and exterior can also be bought as a set new from ebay. look for the cultus, same as the 94.

How is it a safety feature to be locked in by default? I'd call it a safety feature for the paranoid, and a possible deathtrap if the cheap inside handle hardware breaks. The passenger should *always* be able to pull the handle and go.

Yeah, you have to unlock the door first, then pull door handle to exit. Is what it is. Welcome by the way.

Wasn't Suzuki's idea, the Federal Government made them do it. What, you want logic involved?

Your Sprint had essentially the same engine you have now, 1000 cc is the smallest engine they ever sold here in North America.

JM is just telling you what it is, Woodie is telling you why it is, but if your looking for someone to give you a sane explanation on 20+ year old design and decision making, well, I think you may be looking for philosophy. It is right down the hall :lol

Thanks. Since it's working as designed I don't need to repair anything. Need to pick up a flashlight anyway will make sure to get a metal one instead of plastic. Chances are good that the sunroof comes out but I haven't looked at it closely with that in mind, it's aftermarket and not sure if there's a visible name anywhere to help finding a manual for it.
