My 97 Rebuild!

So for those of you who saw my earlier thread about my 97 Geo Metro Hatchback stalling with the a/c on, I finally got it apart. The cylinder walls looked great! There was a lot of carbon build up and it definitely is going to need a valve job. I will attach some pictures in a minute and show you what I have so far and you can give me your opinion. I am waiting to hear from 3tech and then I will be sending the head, crank, and sprocket off. I am driving a 95 suzuki swift that I bought for $600 in the mean time. That one is a G13 4 cylinder manual, and it runs like a champ. When we bought it the guy had done all this work to it to make it run right but to no avail. Once we got a hold of it, we realized it had an OBD 2 distributor on it, so my buddy somehow fabricated it into an OBD 1. She runs like a charm now, she just looks rough.

This is my 97 hatchback, haven't named her yet.

This is her blocks after opened her up. As you can see there is some pretty substantial carbon in there, especially cylinder 2 and 3.

You can however still see the factory cross hatching, so I am debating whether I should go ahead and bore the cylinders out anyways. The person I bought it from is paying for parts, so we will see.

this is the head gasket we pulled out of it, doesn't look blown to me.

This is my neighbors evil prius, staring me down, mocking me as I toil away...we'll see who has the last laugh when I pay a fraction of the cost for better fuel economy without expensive batteries!

So here's the rest of it, Once I get the distributor and sparks off I will be shipping it off to 3tech to be milled and returned with an econo shaft and sprocket!

We noticed that the valves were not closing all the way at dead center, probably what was causing the lack of compression.
Me and my friend have worked on cars, but this is our first Geo, so if anyone sees anything that I am missing, let me know.

This is my in town ride

And this is my Swift. The body is rock solid with not a bit of rust on it. The guy I bought it from's girlfriend ran it under a truck, so the hood and fenders are all bent out of shape. the brake booster is bad and the headlights don't work, but a little tlc and she should be good to go.

Nice looking ride! :rocker

On my last build, and the pending one, I could see the factory cross hatches too. We installed new pistons (probably not necessary, but it's just me :P ), honed, and called it good. :drivin Everything was well with in spec. :thumb

Congrats. :cheers
