Suspension overhaul

My suspension/drive train was shot when I bought my car for $250, and I knew it at the time, but now it is time to fix it. I would like to do a complete overhaul replacing all the parts that get significant wear. I already have a new tranny which is the biggest, most obvious thing to replace, but I am thinking ball joints, CV joints, wheel bearings, and tie rod ends, but I am sure I am missing something. If possible I would like to get beefier replacement parts from a larger vehicle but I don't know if there are any interchangeable parts available. I will be doing a lot of off road driving with this car so I want everything to be as durable as possible. Does anyone have any ideas for stronger parts I could use or anything I might want to replace that I have not thought of? The suspension on this car is really trashed so I would like to start out with all new parts.

If you're planning on going off road after it's fixed the first place I'd check out would be Turbine Tech for one of their steel frame braces.

I knew I saw those braces somewhere, but I could not figured who makes them... I can TIG weld but I don't have a TIG machine to use so I might end up buying one of those braces or I might end up building it myself if I can find a welding machine to use (Anyone in California have a TIG machine I could come use for a while?). Will it just help my tires stay aligned, or would it actually effect off-road performance?

It'll just make your car a little tougher, but you'll have less ground clearance. I wouldn't worry about making one, honestly.

Ground clearance is paramount. I am going to be doing a 1" lift and a full underbelly pan that attatches in sections with velcro so I can remove it for clearance.

Just another wrench.

Hello
How are you doing the one inch lift? With Spacers?

I don't know the 97 very well, but maybe struts, rack and pinion, and sway bar bushings for the front? I don't rember what is on the rear.
