Hello,

I have a geo that had some transmission trouble a few years ago so I parked it and got a new vehicle. My secondary vehicle was in a wreck so I am looking at resurrecting my old geo. After three years of sitting what do I need to do to see if this is a viable option? I already know I am going to have to tackle the transmission issue and a few others, but I do not know if the motor is any good now after sitting for so long. Any advice is welcome.

metro engines are usually pretty solid, but I suggest pulling the spark plugs and squirting, not filling, with wd 40 into the cylinder walls to prevent any sticking ring problems, put in neutral, then turning the engine over with a 17mm on the crankshaft balance bolt a few revolutions with the spark plugs still out, if there is little to no resistance you should be okay...reassemble...put a few gallons of fresh fuel in the tank...turn ignition switch on, but don't crank for a few seconds so fuel can reach the injector...turn off...then start...

Cranked up like a charm. Shut it off after I was sure it was running. Now I assume this is what I need to to do:

New Oil and Filter
Check all hoses and belts
New Plugs/Wires
New Rotor for Distributor
New Fuel Filter
New Rotors on front wheels (they look very rusted)
New Air Filter

am I forgetting anything?

Most common is the brake calipers and the wheel cylinders rust and stick once you start driving the car ....
if the wheels don't feel like they're letting off or that they're dragging you will have to check or fix all these brake parts...... The next common thing that goes bad if they set is the brake lines and or the fuel lines.. Lastly check the front frame horns to make sure that the a arm supports are not rusted

PA Metro gives good advice. I've got 3 sitting in my home in Wisconsin. It will be interesting to see what you find. Keep us posted.
