I settled on a full size spare Sears tire from a suggestion from JM on another thread
$39 (d.o.b. as young as their inventory had) and had a local guy slap it on another 13" jy rim with an actual tire sealing compound for the bead (instead of soapy water) and new valve stem for $6. Not bad for the piece of mind...

13 inch rim will fit if you use a165/65-13

The 155/80-13 that you mentioned is almost two
inches larger diameter

Again, you're referring to the older cars. 155/80-13 is the standard size tire on a GEN3 car, and it will not fit in the spare tire well.

Hose that spare down, scoobs!

Like the other members stated, a full size 155/80 r13 wont fit in the gen3 cars.

I actually carry a lot of stuff for work, so i set mine vertical to get back a little space.

My other stuff wedges up against it so it doesnt flop around. Works for me...

I got two 1994 Metros a few weeks ago and have been stripping one for parts and have the better of the two running. Many here have probably seen my posts on issues related to that project.

As for parts, these cars were IDENTICAL so I am keeping all parts that might be useful in the future. This includes tires and rims. Both cars have 12 inch steel wheels. The tires on the car I decided to fix up and very good and have a lot of life left. As for the other car, two are almost completely bald and two are in condition to pass inspection although one side is worn more than the other. I blame the wear on the completely worn out front end and lack of overall maintenance on the car besides oil changes. So, I picked the one with the best tread remaining and have that as my full-sized spare. I just did this swap last night and the full size fits my spare tire well just fine. It may stick up a little higher than the compact spare but it does work. I was also happy to see that the jack and accessories are still in this car. I hadn't even looked as I was too busy getting the one car fixed and running before I had to pay penalties to license it and stripping the other car.

The bald tires were nice to run when I drove in for an alignment after replacing the entire front end. There is no point in wearing out the good tires!

My spare isn't per say crappy, it's one of my studded snow tires from my full snow wheel/tire set. :thumb

My car came with a full set of studded snow tires. No, nothing else. :-/ I used them the whole season, bought new rims and "sport" tires in the Spring. These being 12" wheels, one as a spare does not add significantly to the "formula:" 100 lbs of weight = -1 mpg.
