The lowest mile auto transmission that I can find locally has 90K miles. Is there anything that I should do to this transmission before bolting it up -- other than replace the output shaft seals, torque converter seal, and the filter?

Is it a good idea to buy a new Torque Converter? This is the first transmission that I have ever replaced so any advice is appreciated -- do's or don'ts.

This is on a 1991 metro with 3-cyl.

I bought a bran new torque converter for my geo 1991 geo metro and it cost me $190. After that it was a way smoother ride! But with one with only 90,000 miles I would think the torque converter should be fine? Just make sure you pour about a quart of transmission fluid in it? I used des 3, but now im wondering if I should have just used the synthetic stuff?

I already bought one locally. Thanks for the offer, though.

Besides for a new filter and seals, not much. If you don't know it's history, I'd recommend changing the fluid again in a few hundreds miles, that way you gave it a little bit of a flush.

The transmission that I bought from the junk yard bolted up to the engine just fine, but the drivers side front transmission mount bolt pattern is different (where the mount bolts up to the tranny). The trans mount bracket on my metro is triangle shaped. I called the junk yard and they said that the transmission came out of a 1994 suzuki swift with 1.3L.

If I get the drivers side trans mount out of the swift, will the transmission bolt up to a 1991 1.0L metro (or will the trans work at all since it came out of a 1.3L swift)?

If you get the mount it just might. I have no way to give you a 100% on that tho.

After some head scratching , I modified the 1.0L driver side transmission mount to fit the 1.3L transmission: drilled some holes, did some grinding, added some hardened washers, bolts and whatnot, but other than the mount problem the 1.3L transmission bolted in and shifts fine. Since initially I didn't know that I had a 1.3L tranny, I purchased a new torque converter for a 1.0L tranny, but the 1.0L torque converter is working on the 1.3L transmission just fine. I used the neutral start switch from my old 1.0L transmission because the 1.3L neutral start switch had one less electrical prong in the connector harness.

Will a 94 fit into a 97 3/cyl. with out having to modify? If so, I'm interested.
