Hi all.

New Geo Metro 4/door hatchback owner. Inherited in NC and live in Texas. Owned by 90 year old mother who took immaculate care of car. Is in mint condition. Thinking about driving it back from NC. Has less than 80K miles. Wanted to touch base with other Geo owners to see what you think. Glad to have found this forum.

Welcome aboard! I would change the fluids, check out the hoses and tires, if all is well - DRIVE it! Good Luck!

Congrats on your new Geo! :congrats

Long trips are not a problem. The Wife and I used to go from Idaho to Southern California and back on vacations. At 60-65 mpg I'd still get 52-55 mpg. :) I would have no reservations about doing a road trip. :drivin

Welcome. You should post pics of it. I have a two door hatch, but like the 4 doors a lot. Wished I'd had one when my kids were little and we were all piling in. It would have been more convenient. What year is it?

New at this type of posting. Nevertheless, I will go to NC and take photos in a month. The Geo is a 1991 and my mom was the only driver. Have had lots of folks want to buy it but I don't know. Your encouragements to drive it from NC to Tx helped me alot and I appreciate you guys. My mom recently passed away so this little car is precious to me.

If you want someone from the forum to check the car over before you drive it back, there is a list of available mechanics that includes NC.
If you drive back to Texas, there are helpful forum members along the way if you need a hand.
Good luck. :)

Grr

there is absolutely positively NOTHING special about geo metro's in this regard.

they are NO different* than any other car and will PERFORM no different than any other car in similar condition.

SO like any other car if its in good shape and everything seems to work fine fluids are fine tires are fine etc.. etc.. they it will DRIVE like any other car in similar condition.

SO if you would drive a lincoln in similar condition without concern then the metro will do just as well.

* remember that. well that is for exceptions. Metro's actually are a little different from your typical car. They tend to be VERY simple VERY reliable and VERY DIY friendly. ie if it looks like its in good shape DO IT.
