Just bought a 95 Metro LSi 4-dr off eBay :-) No, I didn't get to see the car before I bought it but she only has 87k miles on her so I bought it on a whim. I currently drive an SS Trailblazer so I'm sure most of you can see why I did this. I should be picking it up Monday or Tuesday and I'll give it a thorough checking but I can't see it having too many issues at this point. Fingers crossed I'll be back afterwards.

Ah, the Trailblazer. I had a 2002 Trailblazer EXT for several years, was a real hog on gas and could suck down a tank faster than I could put the gas in! You'll love your new Geo as long as you don't mind the semi-cramped conditions and less "luxury" ride. You'll love the mpg for sure! Welcome

Picked up a 1997 Metro 5 speed last saturday for $900. 150000 miles. Ran pretty good. Since then I have done the usual: oil change and filter, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, pcv valve and had to buy an egr valve. Took the old one off to clean it and it was packed full of carbon. Replaced a couple of bad vacuum lines as well. It seems to idle a little better and I noticed a small anount of pick up with the throttle. There is a small oil leak now that I have pressure washed the engine and changed the oil. Go figure. Gave the speed buggy a good washing and vacuum, and for kicks a coat of wax. Looks way bette than a $900 beater car. What I really need is some good pointers on getting the fuel mileage better. As of this posting is has 260ish miles on the original tank of fuel I put in it at the the time of purchase. I have about a quarter of a tank left. Plan on pushing it to see how far I can go before it runs dry. |

In good condition and with highway driving, it should go 500 miles. 400 easy. We don't know what the condition of your car is though, you're going to have to sneak up on that kind of distance, unless you're fond of walking in 100° heat. The tank holds 11 gallons from stone empty to brimming full. Needle goes below what you would expect to be empty. This car had a gallon left in it: ![]() Again, I must stress that I'm talking about a normal Metro, until you get familiar with your particular Metro, you might not get this far. Some gas gauges don't work like the majority do, things like loose connections or dirty sending units can make the gauge do wacky things. |

Thanks everybody. As soon as I actually pick it up I'll take some shots. Even I don't know the current condition of it but I'm sure I paid more than I should have. Got into a bidding war with some dude and it's went to 1800...whatever. I'll save that alone in not filling an AWD Vette motor lol. I should be able to get it tomorrow but I'm going in for an endoscopic exam tomorrow so I believe they have to put me under but it's been almost 10 years since I've had one done. She's got some rough spots on her but in time if I like it enough I can bring her back. Me and the fiancee' are in the process of buying a house so I'll have a garage finally :-) This apartment stuff blows chunks. As far the creature comforts go, as long as it actually has A/C like it claimed I could give a crap, I didn't buy it expecting a Cadillac lol. If I remember correctly from my younger years wrenching they're pretty easy to work with and all I care about it getting my XM in the car lol. No power windows or locks, leather, sun roof, power....I have the TBSS for that and the Metro won't even see the Jersey winters, I have the TB for that too :-) It looked clean in pictures (of course) and with 87k on the clock I'm not worried too much. I did some homework so first thing I'll do is check the frame for rusting and take care of it as soon as I can. Do some vacuum checks, change the oil and related maintainable parts and put my compression tester to good use. Thanks again peoples! |

Well I finally filled the tank today, the needle was just inside the red area and I did not want to run the tank dry like I originally intended. Took a whopping 8 gallons. 37+ mpg. Driving 70mph on hwy and posted speed off of highway. Pretty sure I can get the mpg up a little more. Any good tips besides slowing down on the hwy? What a fun car to drive! |

Just got her home! Totally different ride than I expected but I'll get used to it. Just wondering, how exactly should the brakes feel? They don't feel very.....grippy. She's got some sway to her but the tires and minimal suspension could be the reason. Tires are crappy and she definitely needs some new sneakers. If it's not blazing hot tomorrow I think I'm gonna pull off all 4 tires and give it a thorough inspection like I should anyway. I noticed brake parts are super cheap, so in my unemployed state I won't feel bad redoing all corners should I need to. There's some moist spots in the engine bay and the dash is fading really bad but I don't really know what I can do about that. I was also wondering....how much of the exterior trim parts are still available? The molding that goes from the windshield over and around the doors as cracked badly, found a receipt for a windshield replacement last month too but the trim is cracked all the way up and hard as a rock. |
