Weighing all those parts worked out since I had all the stuff laying there. Funny, my wife was in the shower when I walked into the bathroom with the dirty parts and she could smell them. She's got a heck of a nose for automotive grime. I got the don't break my glass scale speech.

I'm still waiting to hear back from RockAuto. They were quick with the first email. We'll see if they want it all back or send another tool.

Did you ever get the right tranny for your car or are you trying to put the one you have pictured here in it ?

After some discussion, RockAuto offered to let me return the clutch kit. There's a bit more to it but in the end the customer service was great. However...

I had a couple buddies offer to help get the trans installed yesterday. I decided to give it one more try with some help before I decided to ship the parts back. We prevailed after a couple attempts with me on the pushing end, a man on the crank with a breaker bar and another guy spotting from the bottom. The magic combo was me doing the spotting on the successful attempt.

What I found was at some point with all the in and out and wrestling of the transmission the hard coolant pipe had twisted to the point that it was making contact with the doodad(not sure what it is, switch housing or something, little dog house thingy) sticking up out of the top of the transmission. With eyes on the bell housing I didn't notice. I rotated it and it popped right out of the way. Also, with the jack under the trans it was cocked up just enough so the input shaft was angling down instead of straight and level. After that it slid right in.

Car together with new control arm, tie rod end and drivers axle. Filled it up with a 1/2 quart Amsoil synthetic(was already in my pump), 1.5 quarts of Synchromesh and a 1/2 quart whatever didn't drain(I thought it was empty) and I was on the road this evening.

Clutch pedal very close to the top of the release. I only adjusted the slop out of the cable. Actual adjustment procedure is likely different. I'll check the manual tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

The clutch/flywheel weight are pretty close.
But 1.3, Is'nt that a bigger clutch then 1.0(dic. size) ??

Got boost?

the 1.3 friction surface is 7.5" compared to 6.75" on the 1.0

Shifts great. I've got to get used to the clutch engagement being so far up at the top of the pedal travel. I'll also have to look into tightening up the throws on this shifter.

There is a pretty good oil leak now that I've driven it a couple days. I'm hoping I dorked up one of the shaft seals and it's not the rear main. It's dripping onto the cat and burning off. Synchromesh smells much better than gear oil. I'll take a look this weekend.

Hey All,

Finally had time to crawl under the car and examine the synchromesh leak. It's the passenger side axle. May have something to do with that axle being shoved in and out it 100 times while I was dorking with the trans. So glad it's not the rear mail seal.

Question. Even with a new clutch the pedal engagement seems awfully high. Is that just how it is on the Metro? It's properly adjusted. Was actually better when I adjusted it by feel.
