I need a new radio/stereo

1997 Metro 3/5 hatchback. My radio/cassette player that came originally in the car quit working. The cassette player broke in always on and would drain the battery overnight. I tried to fix it but was unsucessful, so I simply disconnected it. No great loss, lol.

I am looking for a cheap am/fm stereo with cd player that will fit the space. I found this trim kit that if it works may look good and give me an extra small item storage space.
It states that it is compatable with my Metro.

Has anybody used one of these before?
Or, what is a good replacement radio/stereo that will fit the space. I don't want to spend a lot on money on one and it doesn't need to be the world's best stereo. Just a simple on that works and sounds good. DC player would be good. I plan on getting replacement speakers for the car as well. Nothing too fancy or over the top. Just sound in the Metro would be good again.
What have you all done?
Thanks.

I bought a Dual $50 stereo, the install kit at Walmart for less than 100 bucks. I was missing the original radio bracket, but got one now. Haven't wired it yet but will this week.

Went to Electronic Express and asked about discontinued models. I got "the last" of a line of Sony for $69.00 marked down from $139.00. By the time they installed it plus 4 speakers and an antenna (had to buy the antenna elsewhere) I was over $300. I'm happy with it though and didn't want to install it myself. If you were going to install it yourself or have them do it, it would be worth looking at what they have. Ask to see which radios they're closing out.

Here is what I ended up doing. I am very happy with the results. Total cost was less than $150. http://geometroforum.com/topic/4871018/1/#new

Do you have better than Metra brand mounting adapters? My Metra one I've reinforced but I'd love something stronger.

What do you mean? i just have the wire harness adapters, not the plastic plate. All the geos ive put radios in had the metal bracket brace for the radios, so ive never needed a plastic crap thing.

Just taking a longshot that maybe you might also have the mounting adapter.
