1999 Chevy Metro 3 cylinder, 1.0 liter 5 speed. I bought this used last summer. It was missing a bit when I got it. did a complete tuneup. Mileage improved to around 36 to 38 mpg but was still missing. Had a friend check compression. found cylinder 1 as low...I think around 80psi. Check engine light stays on. code says "cylinder misfire". sometimes it flashes. sometimes not. My mechanic friend says two things. either piston rings are shot...or the cam is worn not allowing full compression. Any suggestions? Also, have a very serious oil leak. Real hard to tell from where theres so much oil blown all over but appears to be from the passenger side of the engine...maybe oil pan or possibly around the timing belt cover area? Anyone with experience with either of these problems any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Randy |

Could be burnt valve(s) or piston rings and from the sound of your oil leak your seals are going or gone Not too hard but certainly not good |

You can rebuild the engine yourself or contact Geo Glenn for another engine. I also have a really good recently rebuilt engine for sale here in NE Ohio. |

You most likely have a burnt valve, it is common on these engines.. Most common cause of oil leak in timing cover area is either cam seal or front main seal. Good luck. |

Well, it's a 1999 but I'll suggest checking the PCV valve to see if it is clogged and the cam seal to see if it is seated and not leaking all the oil on the passenger side. For errant spark you can use Windex on wires and plugs... |
