Ok, so I'm running into trouble and out of patience here at the same time.

Inside the valve cover there's a seal between the distributor and the cam housing that sheared when I removed the cam. I do not know what it is called, so I'm having trouble finding it on the internet.

Here's a picture:

I'm also curious as to what I need to do to replace this thing. I'm assuming I take the distributor off and replace it that way? If so, how? I can't really make sense of the bolts over there, none of them seem to be the ones I'd remove to take it off.

I appreciate any help you guys can provide. I'm definitely ready to get back on the road...

There are diagrams available in Repair Manuals and Wiring Diagrams
this is the one of your area, but I don't see what you're needing.
I tried rockauto.com
3tech would probably know.
Sorry you're having such difficulties.

I am the one on the left.

that is your distributor gasket-looks kind of brown in your picture, and broke. Easy to replace.

You have to remove the distributor... and remove the distributor housing to then be able to replace that seal. It's OK, the distributor housing is easy to remove... just a few bolts. Remove the "adjusting" bolts from the distributor, then PULL to get it to come off the cam. Then remove the 3 bolts holding the distributor housing to the cylinder head and you're at the gasket you're wanting to replace.

:+1 Just run about a 1/8th inch bead around the lip and install it. Dont bother yourself running down a new gasket. For that matter you could carefully remove the gasket you have have and smear some rtv on it and put the gasket on it and then smear some more on the outside. It will seal because that is a very thin gasket.

That is the distributor case gasket. They are available new surplus, for a price. They also come in most head gasket kits.

This is one of the gaskets that I'm going to try to get made at a local shop. They're $15 for NOS OEM.
