new bulbs = no high beams?

I replaced my old bulbs and went with the recommended Sylvania SilSilverstar 9004 ST/2. From what i have read on this site, they should be "plug and play"..
I popped em in. Low beams work and look great. No high beams at all. Tried pulling the high beam lever (flashing ur high beams) and pushing it on without any change?

Why did you replace both bulbs? Just curious. In other words were the lights working right before you did?

i'm guessing that you had a problem hitting the pins on the bulbs with the socket. check your connections.

also, did you buy the correct lamps for the car? i ask that because the wiring connection, internally on the lamps, is different from type to type and the headlight circuit on the suzukis is all kinds of strange and backwards. the switch doesn't apply positive voltage to the bulbs. instead, it switches ground to the proper filament.

internally, the 2 filaments are connected so that they share a common point. with the suzuki wiring arrangement the common point takes power to the lamp and it is "steered" by the other 2 pins through the proper filament. if you get a 9003 (h4) the pin out is different from a 9004 and connecting a 9003 to a 9004 wiring circuit makes the lights act that way.

check the fuses in the under dash fuse bock. you'll see a fuse for high beams and another for low beams. maybe it's as simple as a cleared fuse.

I replaced them both because i wanted brighter/better vision. Yes, they did work prior but the passenger side had burnt out, so i figured i would use the excuse to upgrade. When the low beams are on and i "flash" the high beams, the low beams stay on but no high beams. When i "turn on" the high beams, the low beams turn off and now high beams, which means, no headlights.

Maybe you blown the bulbs. Plug the good old one back in and check it on both sides.

I know this is an old thread but im having the exact problem. I even did the upgrade IAW Johnny Mullets instructions but have the same result. Put my old bulbs in to get both beams. Fuses are good. Any ideas?

I put silverstars in my vert and had the same problem. I had to bend the prongs to get them all to contact.

The pins on the new bulbs are thinner so they don't make as good as contact. Had to bend ( twist slightly ) the pins to make the bulbs work.

Still not as bright as I would like.

Thanks for the tip Ken and Flash. I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

I went and bought new bulbs of the cheaper type recently and still had the same problem. Was thinking I killed a relay or something. I will try the slight twist of the prongs today and see how it goes.

mine needs the head lights fixed, no highs, no lows.
the DRL are enough for me too see, one click of the light switch turns on the side marker and tail lights, with out turning off the DRL. allows others to see me.
