I have a 98 chevy metro, 3 cyl 5 speed. The motor was completely rebuilt 10,000 miles ago. I keep getting the P0400 code and have removed and cleaned the egr valve and both exhaust and intake ports. I can blow air through both sides and the egr valve moves open when the rpms increase while giving the car gas. When the car is idling and you manually push the egr valve open the car does not stumble at all. The car has some hestitation while accelerating. It will feel like it is pulling a parachute and then will pick up and run strong. The car gets between 38 and 42 mpg. I thought it may be my driving but swapped metros with my dad and got 49 mpg with his and he got 41 with mine. Any thoughts or suggestions will be welcomed. Thanks

I had that problem on my '96 3/5 awhile back. I should have a thread on it. My original fix was to clean out the old EGR valve but I dropped it and broke off the tab the hose goes onto. So, I had to buy a new one. If you haven't already, you may want to check all the hoses to/from the EGR valve and make sure they are clear. One of mine was almost completly clogged and I had to blow it out with air. Once I did all that and put it back together my check engine light went off. No more P0400 code for the last few months. There are quite a few other great threads on here about that code as well. You can search 'P0400' and you should find them all. Hope that helps. |
