I will be getting a guniune XFI cam and I was wondering when I install it whould I put the timing sprocket at the 0* or the 2* mark on my cam pully? (I have a 98 with the two timing marks- 80C/60A) and as I understand it 60A is the 2* advance, and when put at this mark it will make the XFI cam will be 8* total advanced. I currently have the stock gearbox (4.39 final drive), but will be putting in a 3.79 final drive. I am looking for best fuel economy, and most importantly driveability paired with the new gearbox.

Either one will work fine, so you may as well try both and see if you notice any difference. With it already being advanced where it should be, the +2 degrees becomes less important.

That's what I think I am going to do. I would still like to know if someone has tried this, and what results they got. If not I may be the first to try it and let you all know how it goes

I'm running my XFi cam at 60A. Never tried 80C. I too have the 3.79 tranny + 13" tires on my '95. It's a significant drop in power, accelleration & highway RPM. From a stand still, I can upshift to 3rd without even touching the gas pedal, just letting the idle speed & lower torque take care of it. I like it, but would be interested to try a 4.10 tranny. My commute is 95% highway, so the 3.79 works great for me.

Just what I wanted to hear. When I put the new gearbox in I plan on upgrading the flywheel from the g13 with the hope it will not lose as much acceleration. We will see how it goes.

I have a G13 flywheel now, but I wasn't aware of that "upgrade" when I did the 3.79 swap. I haven't decided if I'm going to drop my tranny just for that upgrade yet or not. I think it will help in acceleration though because I can feel a difference with just the aluminum underdrive pulley. Please write back or start a thread on your experience. By the way, I'll be in Bloomington, IN over October 27th weekend for a wedding. Small world huh?

Sir Metrologist

I have a XFi cam on my '96 with a 4.10. Don't remember which mark I used. :hmm I might have to go pull the timing belt cover to see...
Most of my day to day driving is in town. Interstate on the weekends.
So far I haven’t got solid MPG numbers yet. Mainly because I can't keep my foot out of it. Yeeee Haaaaa! :nfs

Check out my experiences with the cam by clicking on the pic in my signature. :thumb

I got an all time best today. 472.9 miles on 7.57 gallons of E10 gas for an average of 62.47 MPG. Top speed was 66 MPH & average moving speed was 45 MPH

I have a '97 hatch with an XFi cam. I drive 100% city, and usually get between 47 and 50 MPG in a car that is not particularly light. I love being able to barely touch the gas, rev to 2000-2200 RPM, hit the clutch, drop second gear, touch it again...all without lagging behind traffic.

The XFi cam really changes the character of the G10, but it is generally thought to be more useful for low-end grunt than high speed cruising.

I'd set the cam at 0...run it for awhile...then set it at 2. See which one suits you.

I will let you know how it goes. I am still hunting down most of the parts, but when I get it all done I will share my results. I hope to have it all done before it gets cold. Yeah it is a small world. When you are here look out for my white hatchback! She is the queen of the metros in this town!
