SW Washington state.. Vancouver area

A newbie with a 92 Geo 3/5 hatchback...White paint..

A franken car... 92 body 93 engine...

Previous owners often bought parts from the junk yard... can see the junk yard writing on parts. (left steering knuckle, left strut, rear hatch, hood...)

With the help from this site, after much :news we've replaced:

Front wheel bearings.. (slidehammer is your friend here)

Inner and Outer Tie Rod Ends..

Replaced all Vacuum hoses...(and connected them to the right places)

Cleaned the engine bay ground wires (some pretty cruddy)

Repaired the Idle Air Solenoid valve... (weak spring)

Adjusted the Throttle Position sensor...

Fuel Vapor Canister Purge Valve (ruptured Diaphragm.. a bit of glue did the job)

Simple Green to clean the seats and carpet.

Pennzoil syncromesh fluid in 5 speed transmission..

Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner into the tank..

Fixed non-locking passenger door (Auto Lock Solenoid very rusty driver side next)

Door hinge pins

All this in the last two weeks...

starting to run pretty good, now to start on some of the aerodynamic mods to work at getting the mileage up.. (about 44 right now)

This site has been great! pictures of the work needed really helped!

Now if there was a sticky for what to look out for when buying a Metro for the newbie...
I would have passed on this one.. it seems to have most of the common problems...except rust (salt free state)...

Not bad, not bad. What did you pay for it? At the least you know it's got all that done and gives you peace of mind.

I am the one on the left.

welcome here- and congrats on getting your work done.
Never thought to repair a diaphragm with glue.
Vac line is important to change- and sadly many used metros are neglected in this department.
Good for you for routing them right!
um, there is a buying guide here in the forum- you might want to check it out and see what else might be a concern.
How much did you pay for your car?
Just sayin that junk yard parts can be a good find. Some of the parts these cars need aren't source able anywhere else. I have put in used glass from a JY with good results- other odds n ends have also come from a JY.
My 02 Taurus has an 01 motor in it that I put in summer of 04- my two year old car siezed- and I did NOT have the money to fix it. JY motor was $850 out the door- saving me nearly a grand over the cost of rebuilding.

Also- if a person lacks the technical know-how to work on internals- a swap may be as much as they can handle.
By your definition- my car is definitely a frankengeo too.
:)
Welcome- and show us some pictures.
