After running for about 1 hour the motor starts sputtering like its starving for fuel.; Propblem is much worse with less then 1/4 of fuel.

I have spent over 1000 bucks at the shop trying to figure this out. We have replaced the pump, the sock, and cleaned out the tank. My 92 3/3 only has 53k on it. Somebody please help me!!!

Don't be a "Richard"

Have you changed the fuel filter?

Have you tried running with the fuel cap loose?

no check engine light on and yes I did replace the fuel filter.... for a while it was also starting out in third gear at times. I think I fixed that issue with a tcm out of the junk yard...so far it has worked for about a week....

Anyone changed the spark plugs, plug wires and distributor cap and rotor lately? Pull the spark plugs out and inspect them and see what they look like.

I'm going to take a crazy stab at it since the $1000 probably checked/replaced all the normal things. You have a bad ground or something similar. Maybe a sensor or ECU issue. My car used to have a bad front left turn signal until the car warmed up (in the winter). Didn't make any sense to me at the time but I think the wire connector was loose and would tighten up a bit when it warmed up.

Best of luck!

I'm having the same problem with my 92 LSI geo , was actually going to post on here about it. When its in idle the rpms will slowly drop off from 850 (idle set speed) to around 300 and it sounds like its going to just shake itself apart, then completely stops. It does this while driving also. It's a lot worse when it's cold , i have to sit in the car and hold the throttle a little to warm it up before letting off or it will die out within 30 seconds.

possible freeze up below fuel injector maybe? Had that happen to me on different auto(non Metro) because the tube fell off that sucked in hot air from exhaust manifold. Just a wild thought . I don't think any Metro has exhaust pre warm up. :hmm

Pour a 12 ounce bottle of Chevron Techron Concentrate into a full tank of fuel. See if this makes any difference.

Have you checked the compression?

Thanks for all of your help!!! I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel sock, fuel filter, the computer(ecm), the transmission computer(tcm), spark plugs. My mechanic is now telling me I need a new gas tank. He cleaned all the rust out of it about a month ago and now it has rust in it again. So I ordered a tank today. Any body think this is really my problem?

If you saw the sock or filter and it was pluged solid with rust then there's your problem
If not than you just wasted another 200.00
