There seems to be a lot of room left over in the engine and with the way my engine has been acting and the fact I just spent over 800$ repairing the body and frame i refuse to let go of the car So my step dad was joking around about changing out the engine and I'm starting to think. It might be tight and need a lot of work to do it. But I was thinking about putting a 2.0 engine or 2.5 engine in it and getting a turbo for it. If i remember right a 2.5 is something around 151 CID so i think i could fit it inside. Anybody know of a good engine to get for it. (it's more for personal amusement then racing. I just want to see how fast i can get this little thing to go) |

Back in my day, there was a guy who stuffed a small block Chevy engine into the front end of an Opel GT. Most of the time, it just sat in front of his shop. As a matter of fact, no one ever saw him drive it. Not once. Now, that's entertainment! You step dad isn't that guy, is he? |

A 2.0 or bigger is going to be heavy. Your handling will suck. Not fun. I'd go with a Honda D16z6 and matching trans. Turbo kits are easy to find for it and tuning it will be easy. |

I like this idea. If i decide to change it out instead of repairing it. (which im working on getting that done right now) the D16z6 looks like a nice engine for it.. not to big. |

crnolic has given you the best advice. Putting in a Suzuki "G" or "J" is going to be much, much more reasonable. G10, G13, G16, J18, J20, J23 could all be bolted in there without massive modifications. Getting the computer and wiring right is still going to be complicated, but at least the mechanical parts are available, or close to being right. J23 is 155 hp factory. That Honda is going to be a huge fabrication job. It turns the opposite direction, so the engine is on the driver's side and the transmission is on the right. Just getting it to bolt in will be far more work, then you still have the electronics to do, but you're trying to splice together wiring from two different manufacturers who do things completely differently. |
