So I have no exterior door handle on my 1992 metro. It's a huge pain opening my door lol.. I found one at a junk yard but couldn't even get the thing off it was so rusted on there. Should I find an original door handle or will an aftermarket one work fine? That's really not what I'm worried about. I'm worried since my driver's door lock is missing also, How will I be able to lock my car? How can I go about fixing this? Am I just screwed with no drivers side lock? I don't want to spend a buttload of money on a new part if it's going to be like 100 bucks or something lol.. If I still lived back in missouri I would just leave it unlocked but jacksonville, fl is shady. If I can get the one off of that other car at salvage yard can I use that lock and get a key made for it? Or will that break the bank also? Suggestions on how to go about fixing? |

Grab the driver lock and handle, and the passenger lock off a junkyard car. The passenger locks have the key code stamped on them. You can take it down to a locksmith and get a key made. Ideally, you'd get the hatch lock too, so all three would match. The locks and handles come out from the inside of the door. Pull the door trims, remove the window, unscrew the handle from the inside of the door panel. |

New exterior door handles are available on eBay for $20. You will need a couple of 6mm short bolts to mount them. Lock cylinders are available from your local friendly Pick-n-Pull. Grab the little wire retainers for the lock cylinders also. You can take them to a locksmith and get a key made to fit them, or make them fit the key that is used for the ignition. Grab a few extra lock cylinders so smithy will have a variety of tumblers to work with if you want your key to match the ignition. Hopefully, you still have a fairly nice condition key for the ignition. Sometimes, you'll find a junkyard car with the key still in it. Don't forget about the rear hatch lock cylinder. |

It is not necessary to remove the window to take out the door handle just roll the windows up |
