Cleaning EGR Passages

Ok So I am thinking that I need to clean the EGR passages? The code reader says EGR valve, cleaned it, and it moves, replaced sensors, and the diaphragm thing that operates the EGR valve, but have never cleaned the passages.

Can I do this while the engine is in the car?

So I remove the EGR valve, then what?

What will I see or what/how do I need to clean this with?

I am new to this, never done this before.

Any ideas?

TIA

Got 70 MPG?

It can be tough. I did it with the motor out of the car and used a frayed speedometer cable and carb cleaner. I just don't trust all of the excess junk that's loosened up getting sucked back in to the motor.

Ok the code keeps coming back......

Ok so I pulled the EGR valve, it was clean, it held Vacuum, the valve would open and shut. I also check the routing on all of my vacuum lines, verified the routing according to the diagram.

Also, looked inside the head where the EGR valve bolts to, and it was pretty clean. There was some little carbon deposits but nothing that I would consider bad, I wiped them out with a round wire brush.

One thing that I have noticed is, if you don't get on the gas hard, just cruise around, its fine, when you create vacuum that's when the code comes up.

I also looked at the transducer, the vacuum held, and I Could blow through the lines

Could it be a sensor that's mal-functioning??

How Can I test the electronic sensors

I am running out of ideas.

TIA
