I just finished a bottom end rebuild and replacing my head with a 3tech econo grind head package. everything was going good till I tried to put on the timing belt. The tensioner is maxed out and its still not tight enough. I did change the water pump. Im using the sprocket 3tech sent me and the old timing belt (its only two months old)

Got 70 MPG?

The head is probably milled by about .040", mine was on my 3Tech eco head.
How much was taken off the head and block?
How do you know it's not tight enough? What leads you to think this?

The compression is 9 to 1 so Im sure it was. I bought it from G10Killz (a member here) I tightened the tensioner all the way down and it still has to much play in the bely.

How tight is not tight enough? :hmm You mean the totally bottomed out? :hmm Or just more than you expected? :hmm Shaving .040 does max the tensioner out, but still has a little to more to move. ^o) Not much. :shake Just a hair. :hiding

A picture would be perfect. :popcorn

Here's mine with .040 shaved

Look familiar? It's tight. Has about 1/16" more to go, if needed. :gamerz

Its hard to tell from the picture but the crank gear appears to take the square tooth belt. What year engine is this? Have a picture of the cam gear?

Once you installed the belt, did you rotate the engine a time or two and recheck the belt tightness as well as verify the timing marks are still on the money?
