Odd idle/fuel behavior increases; Film at eleven

Well, my 90 Metro with 94 upgraded emissions engine is acting up. I think it may have actually done this when I first bought it but the behavior is increasing so I thought I'd mention it here.

When I first drive it after it has cooled off (overnight, after a workday, etc.), after a mile or so I will see the idle jump up to about 3000 RPM. It takes about a 1/2 mile or so for it to come back done but it usually does. Sometimes it will do it once more in the cool early mornings but after that it is fine. Also, if I have to come to a stop during this high idle, twice it has actually stopped on me and then been difficult to start again, acting much like it is flooded or like a vapor lock (what we as kids called non-starting conditions while the engine was hot). :hmm

My initial plan is to get some vacuum hose material and just replace all the hoses to see if that addresses the issue. I also wonder if it could be the ICS motor? I saw a code for that right after I replaced the head/head gasket in it. :news

Pointers please? Other than this issue, the car is running great.

Thanks,
John - Colorado Springs, CO

Since these seem to be pricey new and hard to find used, are they cleanable/repairable ?? I will pull mine tomorrow and see if I can figure out what may be wrong since it seems intermittent. Of course, I'll check associated connectors and still plan to replace hoses.

And bansheetaz - if it is the ISC, which it probably is, I'll send you a mountain dew :beer
