Noise like a flat spot on a shopping cart wheel

Have a 94 Geo Metro 1.0L. Have changed the front wheel bearings both sides but car still has the weird sound of a flat spot on a shopping cart as it drives down the road. Seems louder going round curves in both directions. I have no idea if it is in the wheels or if it is in the steering area. Book says may need lubricant in ball joints or another component but says nothing about how to do the lube job. Any and all suggestions welcome please.

curious questions...have you checked the tires for:
out of round?
or a tire belt separation?
is it a clicking noise or a thumping noise?
do you have any vibrations in the seat or the steering wheel?

tires are good, new, balanced 6-7 months ago. No vibrations, just a thump thump thump that goes faster the faster you drive. Car has bad cylinder and so runs rough anyway but this noise is new in the past two months. I am new at figuring out the problems on this little car but love driving it. Use to working on Ford Aerostar's. Possible ball joints/control arms??

If it gets worse when you hit the brake, you have a warped rotor.

If not, it sounds like you have a bad tire. Check and see if it has any bulges or odd spots on the treads.

Okay, you two have me thinking now. I will have the place that put the tires on check them out. They are fairly new but that does not always mean anything and that would be the easiest fix. Any suggestions if the tires are good?

That would be a trunk monkey.

Sorry guys, no trunk to hide in :) To many tools and fluids there besides the chipmunks in the engine compartment would find the trunk monkey and have a party. Will have tires checked tomorrow AM. Had not realized that the really bad potholed roads I drive on could have easily broken a belt in the tires. Thanks for the help, it is greatly appreciated.

Hi all, thank you so much for the help. Tires are in great shape, problem is a wheel bearing. Passenger side axle nut had come loose and we did not know it until yesterday. We tightened it back down but the damage was already done. So we will be doing the front wheel bearings again on Monday.

Be sure to stake the nut when you're done. :gamerz I bet that step got missed last time. :smackface Axle nut will not come loose if it's staked. :thumb

The mechanic asked if we had torqued the nuts down, I am not seeing a torque spec for them. Do you know if there is? Did not get them done yet but will be staking that nut real well. It had been but not well and the little parts that were bent did not hold the nut. Live and learn they say. Thanks for the tip.
