Pics of the what the cable end looks like? A common problem with installing the clutch in our Metros is the throw out bearing hopping off the nose cone during install. Everyone wants to hold onto the TO arm when doing the install. It drops the TO bearing and then you finish your install not know its hopped off. I take it you can not hit any gear? With the engine OFF. Put the trans in gear, then slowly push the clutch pedal to the floor and have someone try to push the car a little. Just to see if its releasing at all. The rattling is probably the TO bearing floating around in there. If so, don't kick your self to hard. We all have done this. If this is the case though, the trans will have to come back out. I use a set of Vise grip welding clamps through the TO cable hole as a handle when I am installing the unit to avoid this. |

Did it work since you installed the new clutch? If so, it is an adjustment problem. There should be about 1/16" to 1/8" free play between the adjusting nut and the arm. |

Make sure your bolts are properly tight from transmission to engine. At least be sure none have come loose. It's worth a check before you dive in again. Edited by crankcase, Aug 12 2012, 01:49 AM.

Just a thought, the throwout bearing can slip off the throwout fork during installation. this would create a situation as you describe. 1) lack of engage/disengage action. 2) clunk good news would be that it is not expensive, bad news, you would have to split the case to fix it. let us know, good luck. |

after thought. you should not have to "pull" the gearbox. if you slide it away, maybe tilt down, you might be able to get in there to reinstall. |
