does the smoke have a sweet smell?...

no it has a burning oil smell. i know it's burnt oil, i've had cars burn oil before and this is definitely oil. white smoke that smells kind of like burning plastic and lingers in the air forever.

how many of these are there? there were two stuck in the old head, i don't know if the new one had any stuck in it and the block had none in it. looks like there are supposed to be four?

:smackface :smackface :smackface

also could anyone send me some of these in the mail? mine are all banged up and i don't think they would go in the engine very well. ill give you a few bucks for them :D. pm me if you can help me out.

Did you put the oil check valve back in the block before putting the head on?

probably not. i put everything i took off back on, but i'm not sure what part that is, picture please?

if it's the thing poking up through the head gasket in the upper passenger side of the engine and the lower driver side in this pic then no... i don't remember there being one of those when i removed the old head.

upper left and lower right are alignment pins to align the head. The oil restrictor goes in the LOWER LEFT hole in your pic.

Got 70 MPG?

This is the oil check valve. It goes in the bottom left part of the motor, right where that copper ring is at on the head gasket picture you posted:

pull your air cleaner cover and see if you have oil accumulating. If so pull your PCV and clean it real good as well as the tubing, and clean your air cleaner housing real good. --- when you are down a half quart of oil again, open up your air cleaner and check the bottom of the housing for oil. If there is oil there you may have to purchase an oil check valve and pull that head again.

someone else might have a better suggestion, but that is what I would do.

I would pull the head again and check for the restrictor. If you used a Felpro gasket, you can re-use it.

The dowel pins must be in there too. Be careful with those. I have not been able to find them new anymore.

Same thing. They are only there to make sure you align the head gasket just right when you put the head back on. They aren't absolutely needed if you do it right.

If you took the engine out, it just falls out. Nothing holds it in but gravity.
