PCV problem?

first I want to thank everyone for their help with my oil leak. Now, here's what's happening. I was driving along when I saw a blue cloud following me! I pulled over to check it out. I remember the guy I bought it from saying that he had put on the wrong head gasket and it was blowing oil from the pcv into the intake and smoking like crazy. he told me to leave the dip stick out about an inch and it would stop burning oil. So I pulled the stick out and it stopped smoking! Can this be right? Should I change out the pcv? I changed it out a few months ago. would it go bad that soon?

Good bye

Make sure the car is not over full with oil. Anything over the full mark can make this happen.

Drain it out and put back 3.5 quarts and see if it stops smoking :D I bought a Metro that put out clouds but ran fine- it had 6 quarts of oil in it.

Yeah the head gasket could very well be the problem, I just rebuilt my 3 cyl engine back in march without enlarging my head gasket holes or checking to see that all ports between my head and block were not going to be obstructed by my new head gasket (assuming it was a head gasket for 1995 Geo Metro what the hell you'd think it would fit). Anyway mine will smoke too if I dont pull the dipstick out about an inch, my compression was very healthy over 190 psi so no blow by, but anyway as long as I leave my dip stick out a little bit my engine dont smoke.

crankcase

Pressure from blow by will also cause oil to be puked into the intake. Pulling the dip stick out a bit lets the pressure vent off.

:gp :gp

It is a Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve after all, and pulling the dip stick relieves the crankcase pressure. Yeah, like "Pull my finger." :rofl If not you can get the dreaded "Oil Fart" puff of smoke out the tail pipe.

Which makes me wonder about a Negative Crankcase Ventilation system. :hmm Why is it called positive? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crankcase_ventilation_system Yeah, I'm bored. :-/
