Got 70 MPG?

I've never seen mine before while running as I've always had a timing cover on. Now I don't and I'm wondering if this is normal. I'm wanting to say that the tension was set tighter than what just torquing down the tensioner bearing to 20 foot pounds does by the previous owner. When I put it back together, I just torqued to spec, then tightened the slider bolt down without putting any extra tension on it. What do you guys who run without a cover think about this? |

Gotta hold still longer dude. LOL Hard to see whats happening with the pic jumping around. I add a little extra tension on mine. But yes on the slack side of the belt its going to jump around some. |

I add a little more than spring tension to my adjustment too. In fact I just remove the spring on some. |

I'm wondering if the PO didn't stretch it from adjusting it too tightly. |

Way sloppy. How old is the belt? I'm surprised it hasn't eaten through you cover. |

Here's another video after tightening the tensioner up a bit. Anyone think I should go tighter while waiting on a new belt to come in? |

Is it possible you have something tightened wrong? How hard is it to turn the cam? That's still wayyy too much |

There's only one thing that controls the timing belt tension and that's the tensioner bearing. The bracket that goes in to the back of it is also on right because when you press down on it, the bearing rotates, tightening the belt up. The previous owner either jammed the bracket all the way down, thus stretching the belt, or this head and block has been shaved. This is a recently rebuilt engine, so that is possible... |

Something funky goin on there. I have Littlest hobo set by the spring, no added tension, and there is no movement at all in the belt. I have Cheekyta way looser than the spring because I had 0.050" off the head and the tensioner just maxes out and the belt flops around way less than yours. What cam timing you got on that? It looks like there is some strange resonance happening to make the belt loose tension like that. |

Turn your cam counterclockwise enough to put tension on the front side of the belt and then readjust the tensioner. I always push it in a little more than what the spring pushes. Ken.... |

Is the slot fully maxed out? This may have something to do with your engine being a tooth off, intentionally. |
