Greetings, I just cleaned up my new (to me) Suzuki Esteem seats, removing dirt and paint of all things and now the material looks fairly nice. The driver side seat back has a twist though and I am wondering if anyone else has been able to correct this type of twist. Some call this the gangster lean - Fix the Gangster Lean - I suspect it is mostly due to the way the seat back is locked in position on only one side (I am guessing here) but also has something to do with the weight of previous drivers on the seat . Are there any cable mechanisms inside or is it a simple metal framed back ? I heard that the cables can get stretched on one side, too.If there isn't an easy repair, are the backs swappable between passenger and driver side? I'll probably go that route if I can't get the twist out as no one in my house wants to ride in either of my Metros Thanks, John Edited by jaevans, Aug 21 2012, 08:25 PM.

Nope, nothing in there. Take a look at this post to see the internals of a metro seat. The Esteem seats are very similar: Link--->How to Wash Seat Covers The backs are not swappable. Your poor seat is probably just wore out.

Hey, no reason to get personal I will look over your howto and see if there isn't a way to repair and reinforce the seat backs. They both look decent otherwise. Thanks, John |

![]() If you discover a fix for the seat, post it! ![]() Also, You can however swap the recline mechanism on the passenger side to keep the "rear passenger assist option" so the seat slides forward to help folks in the back get out. PM me if you need some help getting the Esteem seats apart. The recline leaver handle is a bugger., but it just pulls off.

So, you are saying I can pull the recline mechanism from the old Metro passenger seat and install it on the Esteem passenger seat? I still have both sets of Metro seats so I may give that a try. Sounds like a useful mod. We're moving our daughter back to college today and if I get some time, I may swing by a Pull-N-Pay on the way home and revisit the Esteem seats I previously passed on in search of a straighter foundation, then swap the covers. Either way, I still plan to take apart the damaged seat to see if it is fixable. Thanks much, John |

Was able to sneak away at lunch time to visit Anderson's U-Pull-It in Greeley, CO to look for a good foundation seat to recover with the decent covers I have. 20 minutes of looking through their import area turned up 3-4 Esteems, most of which had trashed or missing seats. As I was about to leave, I spotted an Esteem with dirt and grease striped seats but they were solid with a light patterned material and even had backside pouches on them, so I pulled them both - I think these will be even better than the ones I got as far as a match for my gray interior 90 after I clean them up. I still plan to take apart the other set I have to see the extent of the 'gangster lean' damage and to see if they can be repaired. My hope is that it is just the back frame that is twisted/bent and that it is NOT a combo of back and bottom frame damage. It will take awhile for me to get to this as I have a few other priorities to hit first before the cold sets in around here. John |
