Just picked up another metro. 1995, converted to electric many years ago. This thing got hit while it was parked and has been sitting for a few months. Pretty sketchy conversion job, lotsa home made hoaky stuff, but I can get things straightened out. Not sure if I will retain the lead or not, as that stuff is a little dated...![]() ![]() ![]() It even came with a nice liberal sticker! ![]() Shop looks pretty cool with 5 metros...

Very nice find, there has been a conversion car floating around the Willamette valley car auctions for a while this summer. It will sell and then it will show up at another auction a few weeks later. I think the buyers find out that it really needs an expensive set of batteries just to be an around town car. I have a 60 mile a day commute so I am stuck with an internal combustion engine for a while. |

well you could get 60 miles easily enough. it will just cost you as much as a new car for the battery pack !!! Lithium is not yet the answer but they refuse to let us have anything else. They refuse to manufacturer anything else. Lithium keeps the cost high and the lifespan short exactly what they want. |

This older conversion is set up with 20 trojan t145 lead batteries. Good for about 50 miles or so. I am going to go through the batteries pretty soon and see if they are savable or not. First order of business today was to get it into a rolling state again. when it got hit, the left front suspension was smashed, and the wheel was pressed into the wrecked up fender. The steering rack was wasted too, so when you turned the steering wheel, there was just a bunch of clunking sounds in the gear box.![]() above, you can see the strut is bent pretty good. below is with a pick n pull strut. ![]() ![]() I picked up the bumper, fender, door and headlight bezel and signal light from pick and pull too. ![]() |

After I put the wheel back on, I could see that there is still a camber issue, so I will have to go back and pick up a knuckle. Below is some of the wreckage...

If your going back to the junkyard and the door you took off had no sag to it, I would like to get my hands on some original door hinge bushings for the 95 model. I have tried aftermarket bushings and the bushings that come in the kit, only one works. The other is not quite the right size and it dont take long before door is sagging again. If I can ever get a good pair of original bushings out with ruining them, I am going to replace mine with original bushings. |

I am not going to worry about paint until I get into running shape and work out the bugs. Nice thing about this rig is that it has already been pulled out of the grid. Smog exempt! This is worth a lot to me since I don't like all the dmv hassle and smog appointments with the smog refs. Title and registration already have the E code. |

I will check out the old hinges, but I have a bad feeling... These hinges were stressed pretty hard. I usually leave the old hinges when I replace a door if they are savable, but these were both screwed up. |

Got her running. Feels pretty strange to feel that much torque in a metro. It is also pretty cool to not have a clutch on a five speed. It shifts absolutely perfect if I pause briefly between gears, kinda like a double clutch type of pause... |

That is sweet. In fact, the whole car is sweet! Glad to hear it is running so well. Wish I was there to take a test drive. Are you going to sell it or keep it in your fleet? |

I am not sure yet about what I am going to do with it yet. It will probably become more clear as I make her pretty and get the bugs worked out. Since I love metros, I would like to keep it, but if I can make a few bucks with it, I could put that into another metro. As for video, I am not sure if I know how to capture how absurd it is to have that kind of torque. Long smoky burn? It is also strange to be able to start from zero mph in fifth gear... |
