nothing I noticed....was 2nd drive after buying it. the gears ran smooth and had no clutch issues. I work on helo's fer a living and it looks like metal fatigue or cuz of where the break is a friday part...... |

Did you pull the bolt holding the yoke down? |

if you look in the broke pic you can see the discoloration of the metal on both sides of the break. If I was a bettin man, would say the guy who built it was removing burrs/metal after comming out of mold and got that area too hot discoloring the metal and makin it more brittle. best guess anyways.... lasted 130k anyway....

I'm really intrested in this thread. Why? My seal at the shift shaft going into the transmission has a leak. I'm wondering if I can replace the shaft without pulling the transmission out. Can I get access to pulling the shaft out by removing the side and top plates (3 and 4 bolts) so I can replace the seal? |

Yes, you can pull the shaft without pulling the transmission. I fetched a couple of pieces out of a complete (not cracked open) transmission today. The yoke set and the gear shift shaft. It helped make things much more accessible, when I took the time to take out #32 in this picture (it's attached to part #54, which can be seen externally) The whole unit (32 + 54) comes out when you take a few external bolts out. With #32/54 out of the way, access to the bolt holding shaft #25 is much easier. Hint: #32/54 will not come out unless you have the transmission in neutral. and, bolts #34 and #29 needs to be out to get #25 out. Edited by Jittney, Aug 29 2012, 11:11 AM.
