Hi everyone and thanks for tanking the time to review this topic and I hope someone can help me. I have a 1994 Geo Metro base 1.0 liter 3 Cylinder. I had to buy a new fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel strainer, and fuel filter. After getting everything hooked up and making sure all connection were correct I started her up, I had to turn the ignition key a few time to get her but sure enough she started up. I was thrilled I put new air in the tires and test drove it down my road only for about 4 miles then she died on me! She wouldn't start even with Starter fluid at hand she wouldn't stay running. Long story short I had to tow her home. After getting her home I tried everything I could think of, i dropped the catalyst converter to see if that was causing the problem but, she still wouldnt not crank. She is cranking over but not starting, she got a new distribute cap and rotor an new spark plugs and new spark plug wires. I reposition the timing making sure everything was in order, I made sure the number 1 piston was at tdc. After all that she still wouldnt go and even with starter fluid down the throttle valve. I have checked the fuel feed lines and there squirting out really good I cant check the PSI to it because I dont have a PSI measuring tool. I have to try two more things I am going test the spark plugs and spray some starter fluid down the piston holes and plug them up and see if it starts if not I have no clue. If you have any ideas what it might be please help. Thank you all so much. |

Does the fuel pump cycle when you turn the ignition on? Listen carefully for it. I'm wondering if you didn't pinch a wire with the reinstall and ground something out. Maybe check the fuses as well. |

You say you are getting fuel. Now check for spark on all 3 cylinders. Also remove the oil cap and look to see if the cam turns when the engine cranks. |

Hi Starscream5000, Yes the pump is still running while I try to cut the ignition I made sure to listen for it very closely. Hello Johnny Mullet, Thank You, I will do that tomorrow morning. Lol I called my Dad up and he told me the same thing you did, so I will have to try that. They are new spark plug wires and spark plugs and I made sure to gap them. I will get back to you all tomorrow and try these things out. Thank You all so much any more advice you have would be much appreciated. Sincerely; FritzGeo |

Welcome aboard fritzgeo Look for fire at the plugs, and that the coil wire is plugged in properly at coil and distributor. Harbor Freight has a very conveinent (makes it a one man job) tester that verifies spark at the plugs spark plugs for about $3. |

Hi Crankcase and thank. was doing late night research and I couldnt but help stumble onto this http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_wont_my_92_geo_metro_start_i_have_spark_and_fuel_to_carb_but_engine_will_not_start_why and in that he said he replaced a Rectifier! on the upper driver side firewall and was a square looking thing about 2x2" I have no clue what that looks for anyone got a picture or were this could be? I saw this grey looking thing next to the ignition coil. looks like a heatsinker for a computer! its under the hood and on driver side and looks like a square metal box. I dont know if thats what he is talking about! Anyone have an idea on this Rectifier?? I would really hate to have to replace the TBI or a butt load of sensors. Any help would be much appreciated Sincerely; Fritzgeo |

I think that's called the injector resistor. |

Reposition the timing? What does that mean? Unscrew the oil cap and while someone is cranking the engine, see if you see the cam rotating. Check all fuses. |

Hi Blue Rihino, I know the Cam is turning because I have the Timing Cover off and I can see my Timing Belt. My Belt is a new belt no more then a year old. But, I will be trying all this stuff today that you all suggested to me. Had to work late last night and now I got sometime to work on it again. Any Advice you can give would help, Thank You. Sincerely; Fritzgeo |

Hi everyone, Just got back inside from working on it, she is still not going. I made sure that the Cam was turning and I took the disturber cap off and made sure the rotor was turning and I checked the cap for sparks and they were sending out the sparks. I then checked the spark plugs and wires each one sparked. I also checked the disturber module inside it to check its resistance and that is fine too. I did spray some starter fluid down the number 1 and number 2 piston holes; and put the spark plugs back in and attached the wires and had an assistant ready to start the car she sounded like she almost wanted to start so I tried it again just with number 1 piston hole, same result. I then try to spray starter fluid down the throttle body but that didit work either. all it did was give me a back fire from the throttle body. I checked the fuel pressure in the feed lines on the throttle body and they got pressure. I really have no clue, but, I need to ask this, She was sorta of starting until I thought I might of had the Disturber wires in the wrong order so I switched them around I put 1 in the three and two in the 1 and three in two. Try to start it that didit work, so I rearranged just like i had it and double checked in my book to make sure that was correct. You don't think that could of messed it up more? putting the wires in the wrong order? it was only for like two turns i tried. All I can think of is that the Fuel Injector is bad, because when I push on the throttle cable i can hear the injector but, I am not seeing any fuel drip down onto the throttle valve. I want to also add that I had my truck jumping the battery to my Geo just in case from all the cranking was going on didit want to drain out the battery. I really don't know much more I can do Any Advice and Help would be Great. Thanks Again Sincerely; Fritzgeo Edited by fritzgeo, Sep 1 2012, 10:59 AM.

You probably have the wires wrong. The firing order is 1,3,2 and its counter clockwise on the distributor cap. The cylinders are number 1,2,3 starting from the timing belt side of the engine. |
