replacing driver side CV axle using the MM(Mullet Method) and it came out fairly easy, now I can't seem to get the new one in fully..stopping approx. 1/2 in. before fully in (gauging it by the passengers side cv) Does it matter if it's in neutral or in gear? I even tried getting the old one to go back in and it won't go fully. Any suggestions greatly appreciated :rocker

take off the c clip, cut off a millimeter or 2, bend it to where it is smaller that it was before, walk it back onto the cv axle, make the opening face down towards the ground, put the axle nut on the end of the axle flush with the end, push the axle into the diff as far as you can with your hands, whack it in the rest of the way with a sledge hammer on the axle nut.

done that job about 2 dozen times, the c clip has been a problem 95% of the time.

I don't think if it's in gear or neutral matters.

There is some resistance that has to be overcome we reinstalling to get the axle past the seals. Some soft, to medium-soft blows with a hammer should be enough. If you push in in on it as you hit the end of the axle, the blows should be fairly minor.

For good measure see if the axles are the same length. The fact that the old one will not go in suggests that the above is the problem to me.

yeah, checked the old and new side by side they are the same..actually had to bang off the abs gear but that's on the wheel end. but other than that identical.

if you got one with an abs gear the whole thing is wrong. every abs half shaft i have gotten was a different length than it's supposed to be, check to be sure.

if it's not going in, it's always the c clip. to prove my point, take off the c clip and see how much easier it goes in.

Rotate the shaft a few splines and try again.

Also rotate the Cclip correctly. So the opening is facing down. If it's the other way, with the opening facing up, the clip hangs down lower and catches when trying to install the axle.

the computer at advance auto says it will work on abs and non abs applications...even shows on the box it came in to take the gear off if it's non abs, so i did.. side by side the old one and new are identical length..gonna try the c clip mod and try it again. will post results later.
Thanks
