I have a 1998 chev metro with a 3 cyl and manual transmission.....The engine is bad so I have a 1997 metro with a good 4cyl with an automatic transmission..... Will the 4 cyl engine bolt up to my manual transmission and can I just swap the 3 cyl with the 4 cyl and everything work ?

The transmission itself will work on either. The automatic car has a flexplate rather than a flywheel. The 3 cyl clutch is not the strongest unit, I would be reluctant to put a 3 cylinder clutch assembly on a 4 cyl. engine. Better to make a trip to the wrecking yard, acquire a 4 cylinder flywheel purchase a new 4 cylinder clutch and pressure plate then re-use the trans and go. The 3 cylinder trans will be a shorter final ratio than the manual 4 cylinder trans would be so you will be giving up a couple of mpg but it will work and return better mpg than the auto would.

I believe the cv axles are diffrent as well. Good Luck!

Got 70 MPG?

You can't swap motors without swapping the wiring harness, all sensors, the computer, brackets, and a few other nic-nac things.
