Factory Service Manual says 2.5 quarts which is just slightly more than if you fill it till it runs out the fill hole. I just put 2.5 quarts in mine through the bolt hole on the clutch cable bracket closest to the engine block and run them. |

Thanks for the timely info. Trying to top up my 89 GEO lsi and wanna do it myself. ------- EDIT: just realized i probably shoulda started a new thread. apologies. won't happen again. ------- I've had the manual transmission oil check twice from beneath the car and believe the only add-oil spot is via taking out the bolt on the top side sorta somewhat behind the engine. You know the one. As described in the quote above I think. My slowdown for doing it myself is I'm still wondering if oil can be added from the top of the vehicle or do I need to be underneath the car? I don't have a pit to drive the car over and haven't any experience or comfort with the plan of getting under the vehicle on some cheap stands. Maybe there's a clever and safe way to drive one side of the car on a raised curb or something. Any info appreciated on whether i can add oil from under the hood/top of Geo. Or, some clever idea I've not thought of for getting under the car without it being at all unsafe. cool. thanks again. Edited by metrologic, Sep 26 2012, 04:20 PM.

It can be filled up through the speedometer gear hole. It's held on by a 10mm or 12mm bolt. You don't need to undo the speedometer cable. Just take that one bolt out, twist and pull up and it should all come out, showing you the inside of the transmission. Just put a long funnel in there and put the 2.5 quarts in that way

There's no option to subscribe to posts on this forum so you don't get notified if a reply has been posted. Like working on a Geo it's a DIY thing, just check back from time to time... Good Luck! |
