I have a 99 Geo Metro LSI hatchback that has some issues. The paint is overall pretty good except on the hood and roof there are some areas where the sun has eaten through the green color and turned it black. There is some bubbling on the wheel well too and a spot under the drivers side door with just nothing. I Imagine the black stuff and bubbling I just sand and then prime and topcoat then sand to blend? Maybe some filler on the bubbling? Then with the "hole" under the drivers door...some fiberglass mesh and then body filler and prime/paint? The bumper fascia(sp?) is being held up with zip ties I haven't taken it down, but I think if I do the entire bumper would fall down too since I believe it's so rusted there really isn't anything left. I was debating on purchasing a HF wire fed welder for $100 and trying to repair all this. Would I be able to unbolt a bumper from the junk yard (they have a metro in pretty good condition from 2000) and just bolt it in provided there are still holes there/do some sheet metal work or something in order to get the bumper to mount the way it's supposed to? There's really no metal left to mount the fascia. I drilled a couple small holes at the end in the top outer most shell above the bumper and zip tied it at either end and then zip tied it in the center where there were already two holes on the fascia of the bumper and two holes just above it..but I think there's supposed to be some metal in there somewhere. |

I would assume so. If you buy that welder wear the proper saftey equip. and clean anything you are going to weld with a wire brush. |

Please don't waist your money on a non gas welder. If you can get them to work at all they still do a horrible job at best. A good MIG can be bought for cheap and you will have a good, easy to use welder, and be able to turn out some nice work. My .02! |

Any suggestions on a good one(s) at a fair price?

There are a lot of potions out there for sure and it all depends on what kind of work you will be doing with it. I will have to say Hobart makes a great MIG welder for a good price. This was my first welder and I still use it all the time to this day! |

How about asking someone on CL if you could borrow or rent it for a few bucks? |

Does the entire bumper bolt off? If possible I might be able to just bolt a new one on..depending on how bad the damage is under there. |
