I see some oil at pcv valve and y tube connection..is it normal? I don't see much oil in air cleaner assembly.... what causes oil to show up there? |

Oil vapor is a common occurrence with internal combustion engines. The oil vapor is usually ingested back into the intake to be re burned inside the combustion chamber. Over time, some oil will condensate inside the tube and pool down at the bottom where the PCV valve is at. An oil catch can can be installed and used to prevent the oil vapors from being reintroduced inside the motor. This should over the engine's life span, make the motor stay a little cleaner inside. |

If you can blow through it, then it's fine. |

or hold it up and shake it like you are getting ready to roll a pair of dice and listen for it to rattle. (no oil taste in your mouth this way)

Why you Mutt!

If in doubt, just replace it. It's not expensive, and replacing it might save you replacing a blown-out crankshaft seal! (Don't ask how I know this!) |

Well I bought the new one and when I blow....through it...it works one way but I checked with napa,autozone..both...they don't rattle...and they both were brand new...so, rattling is important? I have 94 geo metro and not later ones... |

Thanks gold01ca...everyone says it should rattle...even autozone online site says it should rattle and it did not..so I was confused...do you have 94 metro and the same with you? no rattle but blow air from air cleaner to crankcase correct? |

thats what its supposed to do--air flow from the engine towards the air cleaner. no air flow backwards to the engine |

yup, air flows only one direction.New Fram PCV does not rattle, maybe your old one is a different design/supplier. principle of operation is the same. |
