I was wondering if anyone had the shift light flicker on and off at this speed? ive noticed the last two weeks ill glance down and it comes on for a bit the goes of when i move the gas pedal. I dont remeber this before or never noticed. Seems 65-70 MPH would be a bit high to downshift!!! i wasnt de celerating really either, or not enough to me to need to downshift.

vacuum leak or poor ground perhaps? Worth checking.

The shift light is for up-shifting, not downshifting.

I was wondering how long it would take to get that.

Good bye

The shift light is looking for map signal and vehicle speed. Is your clutch starting to slip?

6 SPEED!! don't i wish! that would be amazing!

So if its impossible to upshift in 5th at 70, and yes i am sure i was in 5th. the speedo works correctly. I was thinking TPS too, but wanted to see what others had to say on here. I've actually never had a TPS go out on any vehicle I owned. This TPS does have 220,000 on it! Guess i'll have to get the old multimeter out!!!

+1, you are just hitting the marks in the event you had another gear available to you. After a visit to metroschultz garage and a few hundred dollars in parts from the local store and a 3tech cam wheel I went from luck to hit 55mph to pegging the 85 on the dash and seein the shift light reappear. :drivin

what tells the shift light---hey! I know I'm over 3000 RPM but I'm in 5th gear so I dont need you anymore.

Does shifting to 5th gear interupt something between the light and the 3000 indicator?

HMMM--WIRING: never could understand it.

WOW!! what gearing / tires are you running?

light comes on at 3000 RPM and at that RPM in my stock 'Vert I am only running about 55 MPH.----

It's not a set RPM that the shift light comes on at. I can make the light come on a 1500 RPMS by feathering the throttle. It's based off speed and engine load. Back when I broke a speedometer cable the upshift light stayed on constantly, and shortly before it broke it would randomly come on.

so then it comes on regulated by the TPS as Woodie indicated?

EDIT: I guess it must be my driving habits that make it come on at almost exactly 3000 each and every time.

In a manual transmission, RPM always equals MPH. If the computer knows the MPH and the RPM it knows what gear you are in.

If your shift light flickers in 5th gear, it either does not know one of these things OR it is mis-reading one of them. ^o)

In starscream5000's case it was MPH.
