Hello all. I am new to the community. Just purchased my first Metro. Its a 95 1.3 4dr automatic base model. The car has 140K and was family owned in Wisconson for many years thus has a few rust spots. The car had been sitting in a garage for about 6 months. I purchsed the car for $600.00 in my parents city (about 90mi from my house) and drove it home. On the ride home I noticed a few issues that I missed before.

1) The car would begin to run hot with the AC on and at speeds over 60mph. When I slowed down the temp dropped a little. Also, the AC stopped cooling when the speed exceeded 60mph. When the car was stopped at a light, the AC would cool down and so would the oil. Im praying that the head is still good.

2) Acceleration is sluggish to start. The fuel seems to be blocked until it builds up enough pressure.

I plan to do the following to bring this baby back to life.

1) Clean and pressure wash everything- I use Wal-Mart engine cleaner,
2) New radiator
3) Thermostat
4) MMO oil flush and then change
5) Spark Plugs-NGK-Platinum
6) Clean fuel injector
7) New fuel filter
8) New pvc.

I need any thought, comments, and suggestions. I need this baby on the road asap- I drive 60mi round trip daily and $4 a gallon is kicking my azz.

Sir Metrologist

Welcome! :banana
Another Alabama Metro! :spaz
You have a couple of issues going on, but it seems you have a handle on them. A couple of things I notice though: :hmm
Your metro is showing signs of a blocked radiator, and I see that you have that on your list, however, give the system a good flush first. I might just fix it. ^o) The A/C system in our cars is designed to cut off if the engine overheats. This is why your A/C was cutting off.

With yours being an Auto, the sluggish starts could be that your car is in second gear. A sign of a bad transmission controller common in your model year. Do a search on the forum for automatic transmission issues. :type

FYI
We are having a small get together down the road from you next Sunday. :cheers
Come on by and bring the Metro. We help you dislodge some of the gremlins!

Thanks for the welcome and advice. :rocker

When I think about the sluggish take off it feels just like comming out in second :hmm -(if you are not very good on the clutch of course).

My Mill is in a shutdown this week so I will be working projects on nights through the weekend. If you guys are close enough I will stop by before I go in. Where exactly will you guys be meeting?

-just saw the post.... P'ville is a little too far but I'll be sure to catch the next one. :(
